In affiliated company manufactures metal cable-reinforced thermoplastic pipes 95, 115, 140 and 200 mm in diameter. Arming was designed and manufactured for the pipes 160 and 225 mm in diameter. Beware of falsification

There appeared low-grade metal cable-reinforced thermoplastic pipe manufacturers, who had not developed them and therefore are unaware of all the details of the technology, lack for the know-how and for patents for the invention, owing to which high running performance and durability of the pipes are provided. To differ from the original covered by the patent and to conceal plagiarism, pipes produced by them are marketed under the wrong, implicit names, particularly:
-          "Polymeric reinforced pipes",
-          "Polymeric reinforced pipes (metal-plastic) (PRP)",
-          "Polyethylene reinforced pipes",
-          "Thermoplastic metal cage reinforced pipes (TRP)" and so on.
Features common for both original patented and the above mentioned falsifications are:
-    welded metal cage encapsulated into the pipe body;
-          manufactured pipe grades: 95 mm, 140 mm, 200 mm in diameter.
For uranium underground leaching, to meet mining requirements, over the time of 26 years has been developing metal cable-reinforced thermoplastic pipes of various pipe grades different from those defined by all-Union State Standard, namely: MRTP 89, MRTP 95, MRTP 110, MRTP 115, MRTP 140, MRTP 200.
The substitute pipe "originators" "adopted" not only covered by patents technology but also pipe grades. Having changed the name of the product they were not able to change pipe grades, as it is a stubborn problem for them.
These falsifications and original are different in the pipe name and poor quality, expressed in the following:
-          substandard welded metal cage,
-          metal cage displacement (misalignment) with regard to the pipe axis,
-          pipe body polythickness,
-          low durability.
Pipelines, assembled of such pipes are notable for higher crashworthness. These pipelines are very difficult to be put in commission, as they don't pass acceptance tests.


Metal cable-reinforced thermoplastic pipe (MRTP) comprises a polymer pipe reinforced by a rigid steel cable carcass welded in all points of crossing its longitudinal and transversal elements. The so formed cage is thus encapsulated inside a polymer matrix which prevents it from direct contact with ambient and pumped media.
The development of MRTP and the technology for manufacturing thereof resulted in a novel pipe family combining an excellent chemical resistance (due to the polymer) and outstanding strength properties close to steel ones (due to the metal reinforcement). So MRTPs do not require any chemical and electrochemical protection, can be laid down in both acid or alkaline soils as well as in the sea water and are able to transport aggressive fluids and pulps under a pressure of max. 40 bars.

Prerequisites of developing a MRTP and a process for manufacturing thereof

An acute need in mastering rare earth metal extraction using underground leaching methods required a casing capable to withstand the earth crust pressure (rock pressure) in the depths down to 700 lm and to ensure an accident-free oil well service life, i.e. without well repairing and drilling new wells to replace those got out of service. Conventional stainless steel and polymer pipes that were used as casing failed to meet operating requirements since the former ones had high corrosiveness in acid process media thus limiting a well service life to no more than one year while low strength properties of the latter ones restricted their use to the depths of max. 350 lm.

MRTP coupling types

Since 1977 more than 1500 km of MRTPs have been used for rare earth metal underground leaching. About 50 km of MRTPs have been operational at a number of chemical factories producing fertilizers or acids.Since 1989 about 2500 km of MRTPs have been laid down in oil fields the pipes being used in oil ejecting and oil collecting lines up to an operating pressure of max. 40 bars.About 150 km of MRTPs have been used for high pressure potable water conduits.

Manufacturing process

Dis pioneered and perfected a proprietary technology and equipment providing:
- an one-step polymer pipe extrusion/reinforcement process in which a two-dimensional metal cage is formed before being encapsulated into polymer melt so that it remains inserted inside the polymer pipe body.
- the use of friction welding for welding the end flanges to allow pipe butt connection and to protect the metal reinforcement against ambient and pumped media.A unit nameplate capacity is 130 km/year of MRTPs.
